The mobility in Lithuania, the host country of the Erasmus program, took place during the week of 15-19/5/2023 where teachers from Greece and Turkey participated. On Monday 15/5, the teachers of the school in Šiauliai, Lithuania, welcomed the visiting teachers with traditional songs and dances of their country in order to present elements of their culture and civilization and exchanged welcome gifts.
Along the way, the Greek and Turkish teachers were divided into groups and attended the class lessons. One group attended the retelling of a Lithuanian legend by the students in the English class, who had created a construction of two rolls of kitchen paper and a paper box through which, like a film, the children's drawings were passed to tell the story. The aim of the activity was to cultivate creativity, imagination, language expression and artistic ability. Then, they presented the same legend using the digital tool visme, with the aim of enhancing students' digital literacy, language expression and communication. The other group of teachers observed the teaching of digital tools integrated into lessons, such as in the lesson “The World”. They attended a lesson on “The Castles of my country”. The teacher asked the students to work in groups and gather information for a specific castle, from europeana, google etc. Each group uploaded the information on the padlet. Then they discussed the information in plenary and at the end, individually, each student answered the questions on quizziz for feedback. The aim of the activity was to integrate digital tools into the curriculum lessons, enhance groupwork and digital literacy.
Then, lunch at the school followed in order to discuss, exchange views and strengthen relations among group members. The visiting teachers had brought with them student drawings with short texts in English of legends from each country which they posted on the Erasmus notice board in the Lithuanian school.
At the end of the day, a visit to the interactive museum “Balts' Road” took place. In this place, the history, culture and lifestyle of the Balts, are presented using modern technologies, copies of exhibits, educational activities, creating opportunities to develop awareness of the Baltic heritage and its preservation. There are four interactive games in the spaces of “Balts’ Road”. The game “Balts’ profession”, based on biometric human data, allows seeing oneself as a spinner, weaver, soldier, fisherman, etc. and downloading such portrait by scanning the QR code. Another educational game “Get to know Balts’ items” introduces to household items used by the Baltic tribes. While various objects are falling, it is necessary to identify which of them belong to the Baltic period and which do not. Players of the game collect points. The technology of the game “Travel to the everyday life of Balts” allows moving a person standing in front of the camera to a unique augmented reality environment chosen by the person himself/herself. Most of the space is left for the game-installation “Balts’ life”, where on a specially prepared, touch-sensitive plane, projectors and sensors present the uniqueness of individual Balts’ tribes as well as general aspects of the Baltic way of life. It is a space filled with sounds and lights, which allows getting to know the culture and life of ancient Balts even better. The centre is intended to promote visitors’ active participation, interest, cognition, and assimilation of information through senses, hearing, smelling, seeing, and touching. All information is provided in Lithuanian, Latvian and English.

On Tuesday 16/5 all teachers went to visit Šiauliai Art school which belongs to the group of non-formal education schools and aims to become a cultural centre and raise student participation in school, local, national and international exhibitions and competitions. Then, they visited and were guided around Kleboniškiai Village Open-Air Museum, with its old-fashioned buildings with thatched roofs resting under the shade of old trees, a windmill spinning its sails, woven fences, and wayside shrines. A linear village in the picturesque valley of the Daugyvenė River, Kleboniškiai was settled in the mid-16th century. The village was given this name, which is derived from the Lithuanian word “Klebonas” (parish priest), because up until the 1831 uprising the village and all of its dwellers belonged to the parish priest of Šeduva. An open-air museum is created in 1989. The Kleboniškiai Village Museum now occupies 18 hectares of land. It includes 28 buildings of the 19th and the early 20th centuries. These buildings house exhibitions of late 19th century rural life. They are arranged in such a way as to preserve the traditional village structure, recreating the old village scene. One farmhouse and a storehouse were recently restored at the museum using EU support funds. The farmhouse was built in the second half of the 19th century and houses an exhibition on the life of that century farmers. The Kleboniškiai Village Museum hosts numerous events.
Then, the teachers visited and were guided around Burbiškis Manor, known as the tulip capital of Lithuania – its gardens boast approximately 300 species of tulips. Each May, thousands of people flock to the Tulip Bloom Festival to see the stunning colours and forms. People go there to participate in events, explore the Daugyvenė Cultural History Museum located at the manor, stroll in the magnificent park, and just admire the mansion that has preserved the essence of old manor culture and breathes of neo-Romantic and neo-Gothic spirit. The beginning of the 20th century was the Burbiškis Manor’s golden age. At that time, the manor was the property of landowner Mykolas Baženskis. Under his management, the estate grew significantly, and the reconstructed mansion became similar to a fortress. A magnificent 29 hectare landscape park with an elaborate system of ponds and decorated with romantic bridges and sculptures, was created. With World War II on the way, the Baženskis family fled to Poland in 1941. After the war, the manor was converted into farm buildings and residential dwellings while some of the buildings were demolished, and the park was neglected. In the early 1980s, preservationist Egidijus Prascevičius took the manor under his wing. The Monuments of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Vytautas and the poet Adam Mickiewicz had also survived, as did the statue of the Virgin Mary, the park gates, the brick arch bridge, and the lion figures.
At the end of the day, teachers visited the Kryžių Kalnas, or the Hill of Crosses outside Šiauliai. Thousands of metal and wooden crosses—placed here for nearly two centuries. The crosses on the Hill were first mentioned in written chronicles in 1850, but it is believed that the first crosses were put by the relatives of the victims of the rebellion in 1831 as the tsarist government did not allow the families to honor their dead properly. Crosses of the kind became more numerous after the other rebellion in 1863. In the beginning of the 20th century the Hill of Crosses was already widely known as a sacred place. In addition to many pilgrims visiting, it was also a place for Masses and devotions. The Hill of Crosses became of special importance during Soviet times. The Soviet government considered the crosses and the hill a hostile and harmful symbol. After the political change in 1988 the status of the Hill of Crosses changed completely – it became both a Lithuanian and a world phenomenon. It gained a worldwide fame after the visit of the Pope John Paul II on September 7, 1993. The Pope was extremely touched by the cross with the prayer for his health after the attempt upon his life in 1981.
On Wednesday 17/5 all teachers went to important places of interest for Lithuanian history and culture. They visited and were guided around Trakai Castle, which was built in the 14th century and served as a residence for the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. The castle is famous for its gothic architecture and its special location – it stands on an island on Lake Galve, one of the deepest lakes in Lithuania. In the winter the lake freezes over and becomes a natural skating rink. In the castle there are the exhibitions of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, various archaeological findings and artifacts, as well as a collection of works of art.
Then all teachers went to the capital city of Lithuania, Vilnius and they walked around the Old City. Then they visited and were guided around the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. During the 15th, 16th centuries and the first half of the 17th century, the Palace of the Grand Dukes was a political, diplomatic, administrative and cultural center of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. At the beginning of the 19th century, at the initiative of the tsarist Russian administration, the residence of Lithuanian rulers was destroyed and restored only in 2013. Abundant findings, along with models of the palace, and iconographic material are displayed in the palace's exposition of historical and architectural development.
At the end of day all teachers had dinner at a local restaurant where they tasted traditional recipes of Lithuania, discussed and had a great time together.

On Thursday 18/5 all teachers visited the Ruta chocolate factory in order to know about its history and attend a workshop about making sweets. In 1913, Antanas Gricevičius established Rūta, a tiny candy workshop. Rūta is the oldest operating candy and chocolate factory in Lithuania. Currently, it offers a wide range of confectionery products, such as chocolates with various types of filling, whipped cream and jelly candies, chocolate truffles, chocolate sculptures, as well as sugar-free, organic and other products.
Afterwards, they returned to school and split into groups to attend the school lessons. One group attended a lesson about Language and Geography where textbooks were used in combination with the interactive board as well as tablets by the students. The students would locate the geographical item, point it on the map and look for relevant information on the tablet to present it to the plenary. The other group of teachers attended traditional dance classes with the aim of getting to know the Lithuanian culture. In particular, there was warm-up with dance songs. Then each student presented a different drill to his/her classmates in order to perform it. The lesson ended with the game "music foot". The teachers noticed that the syllabus does not include a PE lesson but a Dance lesson. The aim was to enhance their creativity, self-confidence, social skills and artistic expression.
Then the teachers made trees out of cardboard and colored papers. They were divided into groups according to their country and used colored papers in the colors of their flag to construct the trees. Then they exchanged them with each other in order to bring them back to their schools and decorate their "culture trees". Afterwards they attended a music lesson with drums, where students and teachers actively participated after everyone was given drums and repeated the musical patterns performed by the instructor.
At the end of the lessons, certificates of attendance were awarded and thirty flyers-book markers for the Sha.C.H. project were distributed to all teachers with QR code for dissemination purposes. Lunch time followed where the teachers discussed their impressions of the project and mobility. In the evening at the farewell dinner, the teachers met once again to discuss the evaluation of the program. There they all ate and danced together traditional dances from each country as part of the cultural exchange and acquaintance that are included in an Erasmus project.
